Acer palmatum Peaches and Cream is a dwarf Japanese Maple with wonderful color throughout the growing season. The new growth ranges in color from cream to peach to rose pink on light green leaves. This cultivar has reticulated leaves – which means the veins show prominently on each leaf. Summer color may not have as much pink as spring, but still the light green leaves can have pink or peach overtones. In late summer a flush of new growth adds new color from pink to pink-red. Fall colors show gold and orange evolving to red. The recommended sun exposure is for morning sun until about noon or even a little less and then shade for the rest of the day.
Acer palmatum Peaches and Cream has an stimated height in 10 years is 6′ to 8′ with the ‘vase-like’ growth habit. This medium compact maple makes an excellent container plant for an outdoor deck or patio. Like most maples some pruning is necessary for overall shape and to remove interior branches growing between the ‘V’ shaped branches. For more information see Pruning Japanese Maples. Once established this cultivar is hardy to -20 degrees – USDA zone 5.
If you love Japanese Maples as much as I do, you can learn more about these amazing trees by joining the Facebook Group – Japanese Maples and Conifers. It is free to join – you just have to be a Facebook member. The contributors to the group have a wealth of experience and post many photos. Discussions include questions from Acer to Yasemin [A to Z] and everything in between. No question is dumb – you will not be criticized for lack of knowledge, rather you will get a variety of opinions from all over the country and beyond. This is what I value the most – learning about variations of growth, leaf size and color in different sections of the USA and around the world. I often participate in the discussions.
