Acer palmatum dissectum Orangeola is a wonderful weeping Japanese Maple. One of the most outstanding lace leaf weepers to be introduced in the last 25 years. When grown in mostly sun the spring color is bright orange-red. The new growth ranges in color from light green to orange if grown with partial shade. The more sun the more orange in color. Then in late summer another flush of new growth shows more red-orange before turning crimson red. This variety can take hot afternoon sun with adequate moisture. Once established hardy to USDA zone 5.
Acer palmatum dissectum Orangeola like all lace leaf maples requires more frequent pruning than upright varieties. For more information please see Pruning Japanese Maples. For those of you who have discovered the wonderful world of Japanese Maples please buy yourself the 4th edition of Japanese Maples, by J.D. Vertrees and Peter Gregory.
If you love Japanese Maples as much as I do, you can learn more about these amazing trees by joining the Facebook Group – Japanese Maples and Conifers. It is free to join – you just have to be a Facebook member. The contributors to the group have a wealth of experience and post many photos. No question is dumb – you will not be criticized for lack of knowledge. Rather you will get a variety of opinions from all over the country. This is what I value the most – learning about variations of growth, leaf size and color in different sections of the USA and around the world. I often participate in the discussions.
Limited availability – As lace leaf maples get larger the branches become stiff and make it difficult for me to pack and ship them without breakage; therefore, only 1 and 2 gallon size maples will be offered.
First photos shows fantastic fall color. The second photo shows a close-up of summer leaves.
